This simple tutorial will help you to create a realistic looking matal bars which can be use for interface layouts and navigation bars in a simple way.

Create a new image with a size of 300x300. Make a new layer (SHIFT+CTRL+N) and using the elliptical marquee tool, creat an even shaped circle selection (hold down SHIFT while making a selection). Fill it with any color you that you want.
Grab the airbrush tool and select a 100px brush, and brush the upper part of the circle with color white until you have a shiny look, like the first image attached.

Now, use a brush size of 45px and brush the lower part with black, with just 1 click, like the second image attached.

Now we'll have to use some blur filter. Go to Filter>Blur>Gaussian Blur and move the arrow until you get a nice looking metal ball. I used 15 as the intesity. You should have like the third image attached

We will now start to make the metal bar. Duplicate the layer and use the rectangular marquee tool and select a portion on the middle. Your image should like the sixth image attached.

Press CTRL+C to copy the selection, then press CTRL+V to paste it.
Now go to Edit>Free Transform and make the selection wider to make a metal bar texture. You can see what I did in the fourth image attached.

When done, press ENTER. Now, delete the other layers below. You should now only have 2 layers. (Background and Metal Bar Layer). Your image should look like the fifth image attached.

Now still on the metal bar layer, go to Edit>Free Transform, transform the bar and to make it narrower and longer. Make it a more realistic metal bar. Just add some text and you can also apply the Inner Bevel.
