Not a bad start :) altho as I've said to you before, in order to do it you have to force all the users into old, vertically-split mode, or hack vbulletin to make it a user option.

I have all the icons, etc., from old style urban75 thanks to archiving the 2003 Glasto thread in HTML and would be willing to have a go at making a try of a proper scheme, but I suppose that requires access to a test installation of vb :(

Can you get 'evaluation' versions of vB?

edit: ah yes forgot abt the admin demo :) but doing stuff in that's a pain as it's time-limited :(
that style does force the postbit to the left. it's impossible to completely emulate the old style because the css structure has changed between versions. believe me, i tried.

i've still got all the old icons etc.. thanks to doing the random75 thing... http://zenlan.com/php-bin/u75gen/

putting them in place is tricky owing to lots of buttons being renamed in vb3. spent ages tracking down where they should go, what they should be named. it would probably be far simpler to use the vb developers kit which contains all of the vb3 buttons, in photoshop format, and start again. i don't think we're allowed to hand that kit out willy-nilly though. might be able to sub-contract the job to one or two people, so it's a thought. mind you, if someone went to all the trouble of producing a new set of graphics then we'd feel obliged to use them whether we like them or not!

there's also an 'import/export style' option which uses xml. i thought of publishing the xml structure for would-be designers but it's not really any use to them unless they can test their styles and for that you need access to the admin cp.

in any case - it's supposed to be mike's job, not mine! and he's constantly busy these days.

Nothing is impossible with computers :D It just might not be worth the effort :D

vbulletin.com. admin demo :)

I'm playing with it just now :D

Biggest hassle is you have to note down and export/save somehow all your changes for reimport cause the admin demos only last 24 hours :(

i don't mind someone else doing it, but i'd be worried if they got disappointed if their style didn't get used after all their hard work. would lead to hard feelings. i've got absolutely no idea whatsoever what kind of style mike would like and it is all utlitmately down to him to decide. i have nagged him about it at the pub, via pm and in the mod's forum! :D

maybe if i used a printscreen of a vb page and labelled the various parts with codes to demarcate the various css 'elements' then designers could simply 'colour by numbers' and overlay their own button graphics to produce a 'draft version' or 'preview page'. we could then hold a competition based on these and the best efforts might get our (well, maybe just my ;) ) assistance to produce the finished work - testing etc.. hmm, i'll have a think about that one.

Hah. Been there done that before :(

It was frustrating to devote a lot of work to something, and have several people comment that it was cool, then have it go nowhere cause I couldn't coordonate the final testing needed to iron out the remaining bugs (after 6 weeks of asking). So frustrating I lost my rag and caused a scene :(. This did not endear me to some people, to say the least.

And yes, I would be very peed off if I perfected it and it was never even installed as an option. It would also provide a further disincentive for myself or anyone else seeking to do anything to change or improve u75.

I don't care what Mike wants as a default :)

I just want old style urban75 - or as close as possible without major pain - as an option ;) I liked the old way it was :(

Bah, has to happen at the most inconvenient times, eh?

Has anyone mentioned 'chavs', 'pikies' or 'ratboys' yet?

Has Ern called anyone a 'wiberal'?

Has Hatboy flounced?

All of these questions and more to be answered in the next exciting instalment of.....

I'm not too over-keen on the light blue but I reckon any change will require voting and I can see Miss Minnie getting pretty pissed off with changiing it at poster whims :(
Perhaps a green/white Xmas forum though, eh? ;) :o

the 'turquoise/grey/orange' scheme in that pic uses exactly the same colours as used by urban prior to vb3, btw.
