vBulletin Forum Software review by Adam Finch
When I first came across vB, I was just starting to play around making websites with poorly formed HTML and it being generally crap! But that isn't the point, I first came across it when I joined a (now closed) forum called "PPN" or Pokemon Planet Network - when I first joined it was a UBB, which wasn't too impressive. Then I left for a few months and came back and it was this really nice looking vB! Which made me stay, in which I became admin of that board.

One of the founders of that forum, Scott MacVicar is now a developer of vB, and a good friend of my mentor and friend Derek. So we're all a tight network ... in a way!

Back on the point, compared to most forum software. vBulletin is the only piece of online software that people actually love to pay for and to tell you the truth I loved what I got for the price too ... even though I did get a hefty discount!

When you put vB next to the likes of phpBB (in my eyes a close competitor), you've got a good match! I like to think of phpBB as what vB would be if it was free. It's simple, small and to the point. Everything's there and it's ready to go, the only problem is, that it's hard to add modifications, the style system is warped, and the admin panel can take a while to get used to.

vB however, is the epitome of perfection, you can tell that the developers put everything into the coding to make sure it runs smoothly and it's just pristine.
Adding hacks/mods are easily done, the style system is very easy to get hold of, just about everything is stored in small templates - in which vB has a built-in editor so you can change them.
vB has it's own bbcode editor, there are so many options that I cannot even begin to list them now, when you think about it, you're getting a lot more for your money.

What do you get for the amount you pay then?
Priority support from developers and vB.com staff.
Access to the biggest database of hacks/mods at vB.org
A business recognised and professional looking piece of software.
Access to the biggest community to learn and make friends with!

I was a fan of vB before I could afford it, and since buying myself a license, I've found so much more about vB than I ever knew, and it's just the tip of the iceberg yet!
